Bio Notes

Esther Kaplan is a radio and print journalist and a community activist. She is investigative editor at the Nation Institute and writes for The Nation, The American Prospect, The Village Voice, and other publications. For ten years, she has been co-host of Beyond the Pale, a weekly radio program covering Jewish culture and politics on WBAI/New York, and she is the producer of The Communique, which covers labor and public policy, on WNYE/New York.

Her book, With God on Their Side, came out in paperback from The New Press in November 2005. Ms. Magazine calls it "a frightening and necessary read." The London Guardian named it a "paperback of the week."

Check out what Janeane Garofalo, Katha Pollitt, Amy Goodman and others have to say about the book. Read a short excerpt from the Introduction, or an excerpt that appeared in The Nation about Bush's efforts to channel tens of millions of taxpayer dollars to the Christian right.

You can also read transcripts of interviews with Esther on Alternet, Democracy Now, Church & State and BuzzFlash. Or come to one of Esther's upcoming talks. Read her occasional blog at Talk to Action, a new website that tracks the Christian right. To request a review copy or to set up an interview, email Natanya Mitchell at nmitchell@thenewpress.com.
